HQP Teacher Profile
Tim Callan
Process
teacher Tim Callan has had an amazing and distinguished career.
And that was BEFORE he became a Process teacher!
Tim’s path is one of unexpected twists and for the most part,
wonderful turns. He was raised in an Irish-Catholic family in California’s
bay area. As the second oldest of five kids, he learned independence
at an early age, mostly out of necessity -- his dad was a busy CPA
and his mom was unavailable during much of his childhood.
As a boy Tim looked for a sense of belonging that was lacking
at home. He dreamed of being a police officer. After high school
he enrolled in college to study law enforcement, but as a self-described
“average student,” he dropped out after two years, and
completed his degree several years later.
In the mid-1960’s, Tim enlisted in the California Army National
Guard. There he found his home and over a distinguished 34-year
career, he rose through the enlisted and officer ranks and retired
from the Army National Guard as a Colonel. He also served for six
years as former California Governor Pete Wilson’s military
aide, an intense position that required him to be on-call 24 hours
a day, seven days a week. Another of Tim’s most challenging
and rewarding assignments was working in Eastern Europe with many
Ukrainian institutions supporting their transition to a democratic
form of government. Fortunately, Tim’s first wife Ginny had
a military background, so she understood and supported the commitment
his work required. Tim and Ginny’s wonderful 23-year marriage
ended with Ginny’s death in 1998.
Tim says, “I’m blessed in that I enjoyed every day
of my military career and I haven’t had one minute of regret
about retiring when I did. I am particularly grateful for what I
learned in my leadership assignments. The job of a leader is not
to impress followers with his or her brilliance; rather it is to
call forth and develop the brilliance of the followers.”
Tim’s always been interested in personal development. When
he was in deep grief after Ginny’s death his friend Charlie
Bloom, a Process graduate, suggested he do the Process. “At
my Process in 1999 I found my spiritual essence and the deep sense
of connectedness that had eluded me - it was an amazing gift,”
he said.
After spending several years in the human potential and personal
development fields, Tim became a Process teacher in 2005. “In
becoming a Process teacher, I did an incredible amount of personal
work and through it, I learned a lot and deepened my connection
to my spiritual self. My awareness of my patterns is very heightened.
Patterns still show up, but they don’t have the hook they
once did,” he said.
Tim’s strong leadership skills and unwavering commitment
to the Process serve the Institute in several venues. He teaches
the Process and the Q2 Graduate Intensive, and as Chief Administrative
Officer, he is part of the Institute’s executive team along
with Liza and Raz Ingrasci.
Tim has a lot to thank the Hoffman Process for. Several years
ago, he met a special woman at a Process graduate group meeting.
While she didn’t remember having met him that night, in 2001
Tim and Laurel reconnected when they were both studying to become
Process teachers. That time Tim made a lasting impression; they
married in 2003.
Today Tim and Laurel live in Sonoma, California with their two
cats. They love the outdoors — they cross-country ski, travel,
and they both love to read. Tim, with his many years of service
to the military, continues to be interested in leadership, politics,
world affairs and our government. |
