Francie Glidden

Francie Glidden
The Glidden Family (l to r): Francie, Troy,
Cathy (Francie’s mother), and Rowan

Francie Glidden, a graduate from Maryland, knew the Process was on her path when, during a dark time, three people suggested it on the same day.

In 2003, Francie was the married mother of a child with serious health issues. Five-year-old Troy was fighting a host of undiagnosed medical conditions, causing huge worry in Francie and her husband, Rowan. At the same time, they were grieving the death of Rowan’s father, only to lose Francie’s father a short time later. They struggled with Troy’s medical bills and countless unforeseen issues with their new house. To hear Francie tell it, “Nothing in my life worked — I was depressed, scared, full of shame and blame — I wanted to feel better but I didn’t think it was possible.”

After learning about the Process from a variety of people in one day, Francie felt drawn to it, but almost didn’t enroll because she didn’t feel worthy of spending the money on herself. Through a partial scholarship from the Institute’s Scholarship Fund and the generosity of Dr. Dahlia Hirsch, a graduate who recommended the Process to her and paid a portion of her tuition, Francie completed the Process in November 2003.

“Before the Process I had no idea that I lived with non-stop negative chatter in my head, and that I walked around with an overwhelming sense of shame. Afterward, I understood, for the first time, what people meant by ‘peace of mind,’” she said.

After seeing the changes in her daughter, Francie’s mother Cathy did the Process in December 2003, and Rowan did it in September 2005.

As a grateful graduate, Francie keeps the Process close at hand. “I use the Tools a lot — my favorites are recycling and ‘I Am That I Am.‘ When I get upset, my eight-year-old — who is now healthy — says, ‘Mommy, let’s do our ishes and ohms.’ It‘s very cute.”

Francie participated in the Q2 Graduate Intensive in September 2006. She takes individual coaching with Process teacher Cheshta Buckley, and acts as one of the coordinators for the Baltimore/Washington graduate group.

“It’s hard to articulate how much I got from the Process. I’m reminded mostly when I acknowledge how different — and I mean dramatically different — my life looks and feels today. Our son is well, our finances are in good shape, and I can access and hold on to feelings of joy and self-love. The Process isn’t magic, but it helped me own the magic that lives inside of me — that’s quite a gift.”
