Who attends the Process and why?
People come with a strong desire to make lasting positive changes
and to accelerate their personal growth and development. Ninety percent
are between the ages of 30 and 60. Many are executives and professionals
from diverse disciplines, spouses, adult family members, and friends.
Since 1967, more than 50,000 people worldwide have used the Process
to achieve greater balance, inner peace, vitality and overall well
being.
People come to the HQP wanting to improve the quality of their lives;
they are committed to positive change.
Their reasons include issues of intimacy, relationship and family;
career, creativity, and personal power; enthusiasm, energy and depression;
spirituality, meaning of life, connection and belonging; and removing
compulsive and addictive behaviors.
We see people who have achieved material success but cannot freely
give and receive love. They feel something is missing. Others are
in a life transition, perhaps feeling a loss of meaning in relationships
or careers.
We also work with adults who grew up in difficult or even abusive
families. Therapists refer clients needing a breakthrough. We see
religious and spiritual practitioners as well as students of the
human potential movement.
What are the indicators for taking
the Quadrinity Process?
Here is a list of statements that you can review to see if the Quadrinity
Process is for you:
- I feel that something is holding me back and want to take the
limits off.
- I experience too much stress, and I'm not having enough fun.
- I know what I should do, but often can't generate the will to
do it.
- I often feel angry, resentful, embarrassed or depressed.
- I flip flop between dominating and intimidating people below
me and avoid being dominated by people above me,
- I feel intimidated, coerced, and manipulated and can't stand
up for myself.
- I work compulsively, often to the detriment of other aspects
of my life.
- Meaning is going out of my marriage, my career, or life in general.
I often feel I'm just going through the motions.
- There's a lack of intimacy in my lifeI've been unsuccessful
in creating relationships.
- I'm either unemotional and disconnected from my feelings or
my feelings are running me.
- I'm in recovery from substance abuse (clean and sober for 90
days minimum) and want to deal with the original pain that led
to addiction.
- I recognize that my parents were not as loving and supportive
as I wanted them to be, or that bad things happened in my childhood.
- I see myself passing my own suffering on to my children.
If one or more of these statements apply to you, we recommend that
you consider taking the Process.
Is the HQP a form of Psychotherapy
or drug and alcohol recovery program?
The Quadrinity Process is not intended to be a substitute or an alternative
to psychotherapy. Many people have reported the Quadrinity Process
to be an important adjunct to their therapeutic experience. In particular,
if you have reasons to think you may have a mood disorder, or if you
otherwise have a history of psychiatric issues, we require that you
consult your M.D. and/or therapist about your choices to participate.
The Process is not intended to be a detoxification program or a
recovery support group. Nor is it intended to be a substitute or
alternative to such programs. If you are addicted to alcohol or
drugs, we urge you to seek a program designed to help you achieve
sobriety. Once having achieved a stable level of sobriety, many
people have reported the Quadrinity Process to be an important adjunct
to their [12-step] recovery process.
I get along great with my parents.
How can the Process help me?
The Process is based upon the recognition that the persistent negative
behaviors, moods, and attitudes of adulthood have their roots in formative
childhood experiences with our parents and the internalized negative
interjections from these experiences. The focus of the Process is
on resolving the relationship between yourself and the negative internalized
parents of your youth, not the parents in your life today..
What are the possible outcomes of
participating in the Process?
Through the HQP, you will come to know yourself emotionally, spiritually
and intellectually as never before. The Process offers deep and rapid
resolution of emotional issues and enables you to come to terms with
life as it is. You can recover the love, happiness, ease of self-expression
and emotional intelligence that are your birthright, and emerge as
a renewed powerful and mature adult.
What is the daily schedule of the
Process?
The Quadrinity Process is conducted as an 8-day residential program.
We strongly recommend that you spend the two days following the program
as time for personal reflection and integration.
Each day begins at 7 AM and ends at 10 PM. The days are full and
structured with ample time for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Who presents the Quadrinity Process
and how is it conducted?
Our faculty has completed
a very rigorous training in the methodology of the HQP. They are mature
professionals grounded in various disciplines. Our Teachers provide
instruction and personalized individual guidance to ensure that each
student progresses successfully through the Process and learns tools
for ongoing development.
The Process is designed to be a safe and supportive environment
in which to grow personally and to greatly enhance one's ability
to give and receive emotionally and spiritually. We combine the
best of group and individual work to support your personal journey,
which is the core of the work. Teachers employ an empathic supportive
approach, which respects the dignity of each person.
How large is the group? Will
I get individual attention?
Typical Process size ranges from 28-40 students, with 42 being the
maximum. There is one certified teacher for every 7-9 students. For
example in a Process of 40 students there are 5 teachers.
Where is the Quadrinity Process held?
The Hoffman Quadrinity Process is taught at various locations in the
United States: our own 45-acre site, White Sulphur Springs in the
Napa Valley of Northern California, and Massachusetts.
Each scenic retreat center is a place where you can relax and trust
that your needs are taken care of, ensuring that you can focus on
your personal growth and learning. Also, each site is located near
a major airport for your convenience. For a list of dates and locations
please see our Next Steps.
What clothing do I need? Will I need
other materials or personal items?
Clothing: comfortable, casual, loose; enough for 9 days (no washer/dryer);
some exercise clothing; one outfit for a casual festive occasion;
jackets/sweaters for evening. Alarm clock. Warm clothes, an umbrella
and rubber-soled shoes as the season dictates.
If you normally write on a laptop computer, you are welcome to
bring it for the writing assignments during the week of the Process.
The writing is for your personal use and you will not need a printer.
You will need a CD player for listening to CDs during the Process
and the post-Process weekend. A walkman style player with headphones
is fine.
Are there other restrictions
during the week of the Process?
During the Process we require participants to refrain from alcoholic
beverages, non-prescription mood altering drugs, and sexual activity.
What do I tell my employers or
my family regarding my absence?
We ask that during the week of the Quadrinity Process you arrange
things so that you can fully focus on the work at hand as if you were
on a silent meditation retreat. Plan not to make or receive calls.
Of course, if an urgent need arises on either end, you can reach your
family member or they can reach you through the Institute.
What does it cost and how do I enroll?
The total cost of the Quadrinity Process, which includes tuition, lodging, food,
& materials, is $3,995. A $195 discount applies if you enroll 30 days or more
before the start of any course. A $500 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit
is required to reserve your space. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express,
as well as personal checks.

What are the theoretical and
historical underpinnings for this work?
Hoffman began working with individuals intuitively, healing emotional,
physical and spiritual wounds. More than 30 years ago, Hoffman created
the theory of the "Negative
Love Syndrome" and the "Quadrinity"
model to describe the basis of his work. As his success began to attract
the interest of psychotherapists and other mental health professionals,
they were able to point out parallels and differences between Hoffman's
methodology and standard psychotherapeutic models. This is fully described
in "The Negative Love Syndrome and the Quadrinity Model"
by Bob Hoffman. Subsequent research and theoretical work in the fields
of psychology, brain development, education and medicine have confirmed
many of Hoffman's hypotheses.
Renowned for his intuitive capacities, Hoffman was a gifted and
generous man dedicated to awakening people to the awesome power
of love that dwells within each of us. He believed that unconditional
love is the birthright of every human being.
In 1967, Hoffman gained his basic insight into the nature of early
childhood conditioning and the mechanism by which that conditioning
passed from one generation to the next. For the next five years
he collaborated with psychotherapists and psychiatrists to help
individuals on a one-to-one basis. In 1972, he and noted psychiatrist
Claudio Naranjo, M.D. began presenting Hoffman's method in a group
setting.
Originally called the "Fischer-Hoffman Process" in honor
of the late Siegfried Fischer, M.D., the Process gained a reputation
for producing deep and lasting results over the next 12 years.
In 1985, Hoffman reformatted his program into an 8-day residential
intensive, renamed it the HQP, and then initiated an 8-year period
of inspired development and refinement. Over the next eight years,
about 30% new material was added until the present form was achieved
in 1993. Today the HQP is presented in 12 countries, and approximately
5,000 people participate each year.
Hoffman retired from teaching the Process in 1991. He remained
active in his work until his death in 1997.
The scientific research community, with the Hoffman Institute's
active cooperation, continues to create opportunities for research
studies to measure and assess the results that participants
experience.

What differentiates your coaching
from other coaching programs?
Our coaching methodology is based on HQP principles of personal growth
and development. It is designed to augment your experience in the
Hoffman Process.
We use coaching as a powerful and creative method to foster change
and transformation by reducing the pull of limiting or obsolete
behaviors, thoughts, feelings and attitudes and enhancing the capacity
of an individual to be the primary creative force in his or her
life.
